We did it! We held the largest international mental arithmetic Olympiad in Europe.
We thank all of you for being part of our event! It was an honor for us.
On June 24 and 25, the Radisson Blu Hotel in Bucharest hosted the most significant event in the SmartyKids network, namely the International SmartyKids Olympiad 2023. We had the privilege of welcoming 625 children from Bulgaria and Romania combined.
The competition took place on June 24, 2023, with the children divided into 11 different categories based on their age and level of training. Within 18 minutes, all participants had the challenging task of solving 360 arithmetic tasks corresponding to their category and age.
The competition consisted of three stages. In Stage 1 – “Abacus Calculation,” the children had 8 minutes to solve 150 examples using an abacus. Stage 2 was “Mental Calculation” – in this stage, the children had another 8 minutes to solve the same number of problems, but this time mentally, without the help of an abacus. Stage 3 – “Tiebreak” was the final stage of the competition. In this stage, the children had only 2 minutes to solve 60 problems. After the competition, each participant left the hall with special awards from the SmartyKids team.
