“Homework” – training for the mind and a tool for child’s development

Why is homework so necessary in children’s education?

What effect does it have on their development and what is the allowed time for training at home – these are questions that parents are probably asking themselves.

Most of the parents enthusiastically accept the fact that there is training outside the classroom. There is also a small part who consider it unnecessary and time-consuming at home.

And yes – “homework” is an integral part of every child’s learning process.

Let’s remember what the purpose of training is.

То deep the acquired knowledge and skills of the child and help their effective memorization. In addition, writing homework helps develop the child’s creative potential and improve his educational abilities.

Any new material that the child has learned must be developed into relevant skills and abilities. No matter how well the lessons are conducted, concentrated memorization is observed in them – that is, new knowledge is generated in working or so-called short-term memory. To transfer knowledge into long-term memory, students need consistent repetition, which requires practice at home.

This brings us to the most main function of homework – to contribute to the transition of students’ knowledge from working memory to long-term memory.

The second function of homework is to stimulate students’ cognitive interest and their desire to learn as much as possible about given subject or topic.

In addition, homework helps to develop student’s independence, persistence and responsibility towards the educational task.
